Dorinda "Dee" Sporacio

Dorinda (Dee) Sparacio worked as an engineer and teacher prior to being diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer (OC) in 2005.  Encouraged by her gynecologic oncologist, she attended the LiveSTRONG Survivor’s Summit and launched her vocation as an OC advocate.  She shares her story and information about OC and cancer research on her blog, Women Of Teal and on Twitter (@womenofteal). After treatment for a recurrence she attended ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) meetings as a patient advocate and made presentations about clinical trials and cancer research at the Cancer Support Community. She has volunteered with a number of ovarian cancer awareness organizations and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Kaleidoscope of Hope Ovarian Cancer Foundation. In 2013, she collaborated with an OC advocate and four gyn-oncologists to found the #gyncsm ( gynecologic cancer social media) Twitter community for those impacted by a gynecologic cancer diagnosis.  She co- moderates their monthly #gyncsm Tweet chat (2nd Wed 9pm ET). She co-authored the book 100 Questions and Answers about Ovarian Cancer and the recently published Journal of Clinical Oncology article, Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Newly Diagnosed, Advanced Ovarian Cancer: Society of Gynecologic Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology Clinical Practice Guideline. She enjoys traveling with her husband, visiting her children and grandchildren and having fun with her dog.
